A Nebraska golf course is more accessible for all residents after an accessible golf car was donated.
The Professional Golfers Association donated a SoloRider, an adaptive golf cart, to the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, Neb. The course will use it during clinics where veterans are taught how to play golf.
“They had a grant and got a few of these golf carts and gave it to the Kearney community for us to have,” General Manager Dave James told KGHI TV.
The SoloRider costs $13,000; the grant convered that cost along with other donations through PGA Reach Nebraska.
“We say that the program is open to people with disabilities because if you’re someone in a wheelchair, have paralysis, an amputee, having missing limbs, you would never think that golf is for you, right?” Managing Director Seth Scollard told the news outlet. “And that’s just not true, we have this adaptive equipment we have PGA professionals trained on adaptive instruction and there’s just so many ways to play the game of golf.”
People near Kearney will also be able to use the car.
“We’ll do a little training on it and then deliver it to them too, close by Kearney for them to use as well,” James told the outlet. “For somebody who has no legs that can now play the game, yes it’s awesome, it’s what we do and what we love.”
